NEWS FLASH!

MARIJUANA IS NOT EXPLOSIVE!
By Woody Oakes

When buying an airline ticket do we automatically forfeit our legitimate protection from illegal search and seizure?

Dionne Warwick was taking a domestic flight from Miami to Los Angeles and the “Security” inspectors found 11 cigarettes, SUSPECTED of being marijuana, in an empty lipstick container and she was arrested.

A friend of Ms. Warwick said the cigarettes were to be used to combat the eye-bursting problem of glaucoma.

I have so many questions it boggles my mind.  How is this a security violation?  What are they doing looking into a lipstick container anyway?  Sounds as if it would be very small and light in weight.  They are supposed to be looking for security violations.  Since there is no smoking on airplanes, how can ANY kind of cigarettes be a danger?

Personally, I wouldn’t know marijuana if I saw it.  How come these security workers are so familiar with it?  Do they receive training in identifying marijuana and other drugs?

When I travel it is like moving a drugstore, I take so many pills. Heaven forbid I ever carry a prescription in an out-dated bottle, especially if it is my nitro glycerin tablets.  One of these inspectors may think it’s an explosive.  What if I have an extra bottle in the chance I lose one?  Is there a limit on how many bottles I can take with me?  Are they going to check the expiration date on my prescriptions?  Are they going to sample my prescription drugs?

If the police pull you over for a traffic violation, they do not have the right to search the trunk of your car.  Then how come these “security” inspectors are looking for and reporting PRESUMED illegal drugs?

I understand there are some places in this country and in Canada that medical marijuana is legal.  Who are these people to determine what is legal or illegal?  If a Doctor prescribed the cigarettes for her, did she need to have the prescription with her?

And the questions go on and on.  This is a SECURITY inspection.  Checking what kind of cigarettes she has is simply NOT their job!
