Bias of the C-J, and Art Williams

Following is John Riley’s response to Steve who has been exchanging emails with a Courier Journal reporter (Jim Bruggers) regarding VET testing and our efforts to get a resignation from Art Williams, Director of the Jefferson County Air Pollution Control District.

Steve,

I would be happy to talk to Jim Bruggers if he wants to contact me.  I have not heard from him.  However, based on the past performance of the C-J and their nearly total loss of credibility on many subjects I personally feel it is a waste of time to try to chase down their "newspaper reporters".

Some people like Bill O'Reilly (Fox News) Henry Lamb with World Net Daily or "Talk Show Hosts" like Jane Norris at WHAS radio are great and will seek out a story based on facts and present the information as a service to their subscribers or listeners.  However, far too many times, as it seems to be the case with the C-J, they pretend as if they have no agenda at the same time they obviously push their agenda and attack anyone who gets in their way.  They don't try to inform as much as they try to influence the public on their behalf.

To quote David Hawpe in regard to their political "editorial endorsements" he said: "We believe in the ends that we advocate.  We are in fact urging action."  Well, far too many times the C-J is so bent on urging action instead of simply informing the people (reporting) and then reporting on the peoples reactions to the "news".  Of course, they don't report that this admission by David Hawpe is in clear violation of the Kentucky Constitution which forbids using corporate profits being used to directly influence elections.

Fortunately, there are other ways and means of obtaining and distributing information other than the C-J, although they would like to change that by advocating "Campaign Finance Reform" laws which will silence citizens and exempt "media" (them) from the campaign finance laws.

It's fascinating how the C-J will slam candidates for being negative and destructive and with the same "printing press" they are so negative and destructive of any candidate, citizens group or talk show host which disagrees with their positions. They pretend to despise "attack ads" and "big money campaigns" at the same time they are the attackers and they are usually the wealthiest.  (After all, they own their own printing presses.)  Just consider what they have done recently to Sen. Dan Seum and Rep. Perry Clark regarding VET testing or Sen. David Williams opposition to Gov. Patton wanting to spend taxpayer funds on political campaigns.

Strangest of all, they always measure a candidate by how much money they raised and never on ideas, (unless it fits with the C-J agenda).  It appears that is the tactic they will use with the current race for Louisville's new mayor.  Jack Early is a very credible candidate for the position of mayor; however, the C-J will marginalize him on fund raising more than for his credentials or his ideas.   Between the lines they will be saying Jack Early hasn't raised "big money" and therefore he is not a credible candidate.  The C-J will be heaping praise and "news" exposure on their pick (Jerry Abramson) and they will be "urging" you to vote for Abramson especially as Jack Early's campaign picks up steam.  They will not encourage and demand public debates between them and they will "endorse" Jerry Abramson regardless of what the people think.  It would be news if they did anything else because they have become so predictable.

In other words, they have lost too much credibility for me to go chasing their reporters and in fact I have found little reason to even send letters to the readers forum lately as I used to do.  It does little more than give a hint of balance to their paper.

The C-J, in my opinion, will never provide a "news" service to the public in an unbiased (get the information to the public and let the chips fall where they may) attempt to simply inform the people.  They, in my opinion, will always have their agenda and will present (or ignore) information in a way to push their agenda.  It's their right, but don't try to tell me it is news and don't advocate any legislation which will deny or limit my First Amendment rights while protecting their own.

They will continue to decide what is right (or left) in their minds and discredit (run an all out, unapologetic, "negative campaign" against) anyone who disagrees.  Just ask Jane Norris who was recently in their "cross hairs" regarding her "opinion" regarding using taxpayers money to fund political candidates for governor.  They decided to attack Jane Norris and Sen. David Williams, rather than report that most people in Kentucky don't want their tax money being spent on political campaigns.

At some point they may want to admit it is their "Credibility, Stupid".  Until then they are simply a partisan political newsletter with little or no credibility as news providers.  If you want to keep informed about your favorite sports team, Hollywood celebrity or if you like to do the daily crossword puzzle then keep your C-J subscription.  Otherwise they are only opinion givers and "news filters" not news reporters.  Unlike Jane Norris, they try to pass it off as "news".

For example,  look at the information regarding the Air Pollution Control District and Art Williams.  I believe most people in Jefferson County do not yet know of our efforts to get Jefferson County Fiscal Court to ask for Art Williams resignation and Fiscal Court's attempt to ignore us.  Most people do not yet know that Art Williams is the president of ALAPCO, how they are funded, what they do, who they are affiliated with, what their agenda is, or how much time, expense and traveling  Art Williams does as their national president and I doubt the C-J will ask.  Most people of Jefferson County do not know who Art Williams is or how much he is paid to work for the citizens of Jefferson County and his utter disregard for "representative government".  Most people of Jefferson County would demand his resignation if they knew what we know regarding his activities with ALAPCO,  the United Nations and Agenda 21.  But don't count on the C-J to report on that.

Our request for Art Williams resignation is no different than if Jim Bruggers worked against the C-J's wishes and desires.  Most likely C-J bosses would ask him to resign rather than to continue to pay him to work against them.

Well, that is enough!  I will send a copy of this to Jane Norris, Henry Lamb and Jefferson Review.  I hope you will consider subscribing and supporting Jefferson Review at www.JeffersonReview.com  and www.WorldNetDaily.com   In the mean time I will keep you posted on our progress and thanks for your interest and help.  Continue to inform the people you know and ask them to get involved.

By the way, the people in Ohio, Indiana and Tennessee are also trying to end their emissions testing programs.  I doubt you will read about their efforts in the C-J.   If you need any additional information just let me know.
