To:  My senators and congressman:

I understand that legislation is being proposed to permit pilots to be armed.  I hope you will support it as being a sensible step that really would make us safer.  A large portion of pilots have military training, and, even if the pilots choose not to arm themselves, it would be nice for potential hijackers not to know which aircraft might be defended by armed pilots.  Even if the pilot isn't a perfect shot, the odds of surviving a hijacking with an armed pilot are certainly better than the current policy of having the U.S. military shoot down a hijacked plane.

Leave the option up to the airlines.  Then we consumers can choose whether to fly with airlines that allow their pilots to be armed.  All the airport security we have now is just a nuisance and window dressing.  It certainly does not make me feel any safer.  But armed pilots could really make a difference.  If you care about safety, instead of pouring more money down a rathole or taking more steps to reduce our civil rights, please do something that really will make us safer.  Allow pilots to be armed.  Thanks.
