Candidate Survey - Louisville Metro Candidates What Can We Do About Corrupt Zoning Boards? By Theresa Fritz Camoriano Last week, I attended a forum for people running for the new Louisville council, and I found it very interesting. I live in district 19, which is at the eastern edge of the county, and an issue that was raised repeatedly, both by the candidates and by several members of the audience, was the problem of corruption of our local zoning board. The Drug War in Jefferson County Kentucky by Michael Waddell It isn't always easy to see the effects of the drug war here in Jefferson County. Officials rarely talk about how the Drug War is going unless they are trying to use tough language as a way of getting votes. The media also seems strangely mute on the subject. The Snitch, a new periodical that lists weekly crime for each zip code, typically doesn't list drug crime at all. This makes it too easy to believe that only a few people are arrested on harmless possession charges. But the reality for many in Louisville, especially for minorities and the poor, is that the enforcement of drug law is a constant, punishing reminder of government's power over our ability to make our own decisions. The harm of Media Bias A Letter From Bob Fritz to the Houston Chronicle Those Texans who came before us had an expression for a person or persons who could not be moved from their course of action regardless of reasoning or consequence. They would say he or she is “hell bent” to do this or that. Well, there are those in America who are “hell bent” on destroying Texas and America. Many of these people have found their way into the media, and it is my firm belief that the Shah of Iran was correct when he said, “When the western world falls it will be the media that pulls it down.” Could we start with the smallest mustard seed, the “Chronicle”? IT'S A DRIVER'S LICENSE, NOT A MUG SHOT By Woody Oakes I have a few questions and I strongly object to the use of Kentucky Driver’s License photos in a so called “photo line-up” by the Kentucky State Police. The Libertarian Will to Fail By Francis Tully For the past two months, I have been inspired by Rick Stanley to become an activist in an effort to bring attention to the unconstitutional laws in the United States. So easy to believe the lie By Ed Lewis Whatever else one might believe about JFK, this is the expressed belief we should be responding to. It is imperative that government operates above-board (openly) and that the pretense of “national security” be dropped for if we do not know statements supporting actions are factual, then we cannot possibly know that actions are justified.

Property rights are a basic human right, the best defense for those with the least political influence.
It is too bad that the overall value to human beings of their basic right to private property is so widely and prestigiously denied. It is one of the most beneficent institutions and certainly the bulwark against any kind of tyranny, be it that of a ruling party, a dictatorship, or even of a democratic majority. Tibor Machan
