Vehicle Emissions Test End Is In Sight! by John Riley, Member of Stop the VET The effort to put an end to the vehicle emission test (VET) program was given a major boost in the Kentucky House of Representatives last week. On Tuesday, March 12th, Rep. Perry Clark was able to pass House Bill 618 which will put an end to VET as of November 2003. HB 618 must now go the Kentucky Senate (which has already passed another similar bill SB 102) where it is expected to pass and be forwarded to Gov. Paul Patton. Is Government A Major Cause of Air Pollution? (And should we expect cows to fly?) By Theresa Fritz Camoriano At a recent meeting of the Libertarian Party of Jefferson County, there was a very interesting interchange between Art Williams, the head of the Air Pollution Control District, and people who have been vehemently opposing vehicle emissions testing (VET). Two things were particularly striking about Mr. Williams’ talk. First was the extent to which government mandates frequently operate at cross purposes, with one arm of the government mandating one action, at great cost, which results in defeating the mandate of another arm of the government, again at great cost. Second was the way Mr. Williams' numbers just did not seem to add up. What If We Really Cared About The Children? by Pat Pending A recent writer to Ann Landers suggests that the next reality TV program should involve putting business people into classrooms and requiring them to try to survive as a teacher. DISCRIMINATION: The issue in black and white by Guillermo Camoriano Discrimination is actually an important coping and survival mechanism. We do it all the time, discriminating against events, people, or things based on learned preconceived notions or stereotypes. For instance, if you are walking alone in a dark, unknown city street, and you see two males on one sidewalk and two females on the other sidewalk, the vast majority of the people would choose to walk on the sidewalk with the two females, because, in general, females are perceived as being less dangerous and less likely to assault you. Thus, we are discriminating against the males for our own survival. The Truth About Hitler By Gordon Francis Corbett According to philosopher Alisa Zinovievna Rosenbaum, who wrote as "Ayn Rand," evil can never succeed except with the help of good. Exhibit "A" is the character of Adolf Hitler. CHARLES PUCKETT LAST TESTAMENT I have served with pride in the Kentucky State Militia for 12 years. I have given my best & my all for this country. I have found recently that B. A. T. F. have written regulations without Congressional approval -- that a simple piece of metal is defined as a machine gun. This is one of the counts that they have charged me with. It is my last testament in this letter, to the citizens of Kentucky, the state legislature & militia that I have NEVER had, manufactured, or INTENDED to manufacture or possessed or owned or fired a machine gun. Remembering the Gardellas by Theresa Maruffi Fritz My father and mother were operators of the old Hopewell Store, located at the junction of Hopewell and Matson Hill Roads in Glastonbury, Connecticut. Besides being a store, it was the local hangout for the people of the neighborhood, and our family lived upstairs, so my brother John and I grew up in these surroundings. In those days, very few people had cars, but the Gardellas always had a car, and many of us enjoyed a ride to many events, such as ball games in town or in Hartford at the old Buckley Stadium. They also drove the elderly or handicapped to church on Sundays on a regular basis. The whole family was faithful supporters of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church.

"Men had better be without education than be educated by their rulers."
Thomas Hodgskin 1823
It is time to realize that profit, property and freedom are inseparable. You cannot have any one of them without the others.
Ronald Reagan, 1974
