Kentucky Legislative Update

By Norm Davis

Thursday was a pretty good day for the people of Kentucky. The following took place that benefits the people:

1)   SB 102 which will eliminate the Vehicle Emissions Testing, of which poluution credits are then issued, passed the full Senate. The bill now heads to the House where we will have our work cut out for us. Contact your State Rep and tell him/her to support SB 102 as well as its companion House Bill HB 618

2)   HB 31 with a Senate Floor Amendment passed and will now go to the House for their concurence. The amendment by Senator Virgil Moore will allow those registered as "Independent" to vote in the primaries. At this time they are left out of the system. Thanks needs to go to Senator Moore at virgil.moore@lrc.state.ky.us for his caring. Contact your State Rep and have them support this bill with Senate Floor Amendment 1

3)   One of the so called Smart Growth bills was defeated in the House committee it was in. The Governors so called Smart Growth Bill will be before the  Appropriations and Revenue Committee in the House Tuesday at 10:00 AM Eastern time. Contact your State Rep and tell them to not support this bill and to defeat this bill which will allow regs to be made that will add further restrictions upon your use of your property as well as add planning and zoning for ALL 120 COUNTIES through regs.

4)   A BR, bill request, was filed yesterday to require that all persons needed or required by law to have to run in an election for planner. At this time these unelected, unaccountable, bureaucrats are appointed and are free to pass any restrictions they like on people and their property. Since these people affect our lives as much or more so than State Senators, State Reps, Mayors, County Judge Executives, Fical Court members and City Councilmen we have asked that this bill be filed to make these people accountable. When this bill has a number we will get it out. This could be the most important bill of the session.
