Anti-VET Update

By John Riley

I am happy to report that Senate Bill 102, which will put an end to VET testing in Jefferson County, passed on the Senate floor today! (Thursday Feb. 21st)

I am sorry about the confusion today about the timing of this Bill and I wish more people could have been in Frankfort to share in the success of this.  However, Sen. Seum was not sure this morning if all of the votes would be there today.  Sen. Moore was not expected to be in Frankfort today due to a doctors appointment, but as it turned out he did make it and therefore Sen. Seum allowed it to go ahead and come up on the floor.  The good news is IT PASSED.

Now the hard work begins.  The bill now goes to the House of Representatives.  There is also another bill in the House which was entered by Rep. Perry Clark which will end VET testing (HB618).  HB618 has been assigned to the House Local Government Committee and I will try to let you know when it will be before the committee for a hearing.

We don't know at this point what House committee Senate Bill 102 will be assigned to.

We need to put as much pressure on the members of the House,  the members of the Local Government committee in the House and begin to let Governor Patton know that "We the People" want VET testing to end!

Here is what you need to do:

#1)  Call 1-800-372-7181 and leave a message for all members of the House of Representatives to support Senate Bill 102 and House Bill 618.

#2)  Call anyone you know who is a member of a labor union and let them know you need their support to get this passed in the House.   They will have a strong voice with the House democrats and in particular Rep. Larry Clark, who will be trying to sidetrack it.

#3)  Call Governor Paul Patton @ 1-502-564-2611 or send an email to

governor@mail.state.ky.us

and let him know that you want VET testing to end.  Ask that he support Senate Bill 102 and House Bill 618.

Get this information to as many people as possible and make sure they call also.

We have come a long way on this legislation and it truly is time to put an end to VET testing.  If you want VET testing to end please go to work on this ASAP and lets build on the momentum that we have with the success in the Kentucky Senate.

Cheers!
