Opposition to Vehicle Emission Testing Grows!
98.2% of autos and light trucks model year 1990 through 2001 pass the VET. The cost to find 5,500 failed vehicles out of over 303,700 vehicles tested is nearly $3,500,000.00 for the $11.00 test fee alone. The pollution credits which are obtained by Jefferson County for its VET program are used to offset other commercial and industrial pollution sources by their use in the State Implementation Plan (SIP). Jefferson County pretends to clean the air by testing vehicles that do not need to be tested only to give a break to the real polluters.
Do You Want To End VET Testing? #1) Call the Legislative Delegation in Frankfort (toll free) @ 1-800-372-7181 Tell the operator to forward the following message to ALL LEGISLATORS: "Please support Senate Bill #102 which will put an end to VET testing." #2) Call County Judge Rebecca Jackson @ 574-6161 Leave a message with the operator that you oppose her plan to continue VET testing and increasing the fee to $22.00 for bi-annual testing. Note: Judge Jackson’s plan to exempt vehicles which are 5 years old or newer only applies to vehicles model year 2001 or later.
