Libertarians Challenge Arena Supporters To "Put Up or Shut Up"

Donna Walker Mancini, chairman of the Libertarian Party of Kentucky, says it is time for arena supporters to put up or shut up.  We libertarians are very glad to see that so many people say they want to build an arena in Louisville.   But talk is cheap.  To see whether there really is sufficient support for an arena in Louisville, we must see how much of their own money the arena supporters are willing to put into the project voluntarily.  Using the government to force people to pay for an arena would be morally wrong.  The proper role of government is to defend the people, not to plunder them.  If an arena is a good idea, then it should be supported and built through the free market, not through force.

Therefore, we challenge all arena supporters to join together and form a corporation for the purpose of amassing the funds needed for construction.  We especially look forward to seeing how much of their own money the prominent, wealthy supporters of the arena, such as Doug Cobb,  Ed Glasscock, and The Courier-Journal are willing to invest in the project.  Then we will know whether they are really serious about wanting to improve this community or whether they just want to jump on the corporate welfare train at the expense of the taxpayers.
