A Helping Hand To The Sick and Dying

"Liberty is the only thing you cannot have unless you are willing to give it to others," William Allen White said. We have a war against terrorism, a war against drugs, and a war against people ending their lives when they see fit. Our resources are not unlimited. Our Government should defend Americans and our property in America and set an example for the rest of the world by letting Americans control their individual destinies.

I am very troubled by the treatment sick and dying people are receiving in America today at the hands of the federal government. People with terrible illnesses, like cancer, multiple sclerosis, and AIDS, are being threatened with arrest and imprisonment just because they have found that medical marijuana helps them. They are forced to break the law to find relief from the pain.

I like to think of America as a place where the sick and the vulnerable are given a helping hand rather than being threatened with prison and criminal records. The current approach to medical marijuana policy by the federal government undermines this hope. It is time for a change.

Fortunately, U.S. Representatives Barney Frank, Ron Paul, and others have introduced H.R. 2592 in Congress, a bill that would change federal law to allow legal access to medical marijuana.
