Arena
madness continues
by
George Baumler
Louisville public officials want to protect the Hornets from the
sort of abuse they received in Charlotte at the hands of those miserly
taxpayers, who had the audacity to vote against their demands in a voter
referendum. Our sage leaders,
pressured by a timetable dictated by the former Charlotte team, see no
other option than to spend the citizens’ money on the team and new
arena. Debates, cool
reflections, or, heaven forbid, voter referendums are much too time
consuming for the hasty Hornets, who are eager to reel in the deal.
It’s a sure thing that Mr. Miller, Greater Louisville Inc. and
the holy church of pro sports worship will gladly make up the shortfall in
the unlikely circumstance their lofty predictions do not come to fruition.
Louisville’s taxpayers don’t have a thing to worry about.
In fact, rather than being a swindle, it’ll make us all filthy
rich.
The NBA
arena supporters are just letting the taxpayers in on a good deal.
Don’t listen to Libertarians and others "who wish to derail
the project on ideological grounds.”
We’re told.
Louisville’s leaders aren’t foolish. It’s a win-win
proposition.
If the scheme makes money, they told us so.
If the thing flops, they’re out of office by then anyway and the
taxpayers pick up the tab.
