Dear Senator Bunning,

I was totally and completely shocked to hear you say on the Jane Norris radio show of Tuesday, October 9, 2001 that we were are "going to have to give up our civil liberties" due to the situation we are in with the terrorists. I was also in disbelief that you stated that "I am not worried about the agencies reading my email" as well as some other statements you made.

Which of our liberties were you referring to? Were you referring to our "Bill of Rights" or just some of the rights contained in this document. Which of the ten specific rights are you willing to give up? I am personally not willing to give up any of my rights. I may just be a dumb country boy, but I have sense enough to know that once these rights are gone we will never get them back.

You stated on the show that the ACLU and a few civil libertarians are about all that would be unwilling to give up their rights. I hate the ACLU and many of the things they stand for. However, I will stand with them on this issue even if I have to hold my nose and wash my hands with disinfectant after working with them.

I am not willing to give up my right to free speech, privacy and especially my Second Amendment right. Never!

The bills you referred to as "needed to protect us and get at the terrorists" leave it open for anyone that opposes what the government is doing or possibly wants to do to be classified as a terrorist or something undesirable. What would a person do for defense against unfair accusations? With our rights gone and this kind of mentality we have LOST THE WAR ALREADY and haven't enough sense to know it.

The America I love and would die for is not this kneejerk reactive state, that would leave us as any other dictatorial country, with only "government given" rights. Our founding documents and writings decree that our rights are "God given" and to be protected by government not taken by government.

In closing, I would like to ask, by what Constitutional authority does Congress or the President have the right to take away these God given rights?
