Get Us Out

Gordon Francis Corbett

We are told that to leave NATO, GATT, the WTO, or the United Nations would be stupid, because we must not "ignore the world."  Apparently, "not ignoring the world" means moving toward a world government, also known as "one world."  "One world," supposedly, will be good for our wallets.

Actually, "one world" might make our wallets last longer:  we will have less money to swell them.  The United Nations is talking about a global tax that we would pay to support their "peacekeeping" and other activities.

Then, too, there is the "North-South Tax" that rich countries would pay to make better "trading partners" out of poor countries.  Part of this "tax" involves rich countries' curtailing some of their industries, so that poor nations can take them up and sell the products to the rich.  Possible case in point:  our fishermen, whose regulation into poverty forces them to sell their boats to our "generous" government.

And what of our right to keep and bear arms?  On 9 July 2001, the United Nations held a meeting to discuss eliminating the private ownership of firearms.  As the only countries whose citizens own lots of guns are Switzerland and the United States, whom they intend to disarm is clear.  Bill Clinton worked with the Canadians and the Japanese to set this up.  Other meetings will happen later.

No, we must not ignore the world.  The world is a rough, tough place.  Accordingly, George Washington advised us to trade with every friendly nation, but to have long-term alliances with none.  He wanted us to be independent.

We can reclaim our independence only if we leave the United Nations and kick its headquarters out of our country.  President Bush disagrees.  He loves the United Nations.  Given the facts, we must ask ourselves, "Why?"
