Gary Clinton-Condit

"In an interview Friday with Newsweek magazine, (DEMOCRAT Rep. Gary) Condit suggested it is open to interpretation whether he and (flight attendant Anne Marie) Smith had a relationship," reports the Washington Times on Monday. Smith has said she and the married "Randy Representative" were doing the horizontal bop for almost a year, a claim Condit denied in his ABC interview last week with the Chungster.

"In my opinion," he told Newsweek's Michael Isikoff, "we did not have
relationship.  It would probably be her definition of a relationship versus
mine."  Could this guy possibly be any sorrier of an imitation of Bill Clinton . who famously explained to the entire world that receiving oral sex from an intern in the Oval Office wasn't really sex, even going so far as to emphatically point his finger at the TV cameras and assert he "did not have sex with that woman."  Or, remember this golden oldie:  It depends on what "is" is?

Anyway, we're pretty tired of the Condit story, are not sure what real relevance it has on the nation's well-being and think the media's feeding-frenzy has been obscenely overblown.  On the other hand, thanks to this wretch of a man, the Democrats' fear-and-smear rhetoric machine against the White House along with typical GOP bungling of one issue after another have been completely overshadowed.  So even though we don't read, watch or listen to much of the Condit clap-trap, we're content to allow this media orgy to continue unabated.  Welcome to All Condit, All the Time.

The Summer of Conservative Discontent

"When it rains, it pours.  For social and economic conservatives, the torrent of bad news this summer has been relentless:  President Bush's cave-in on government funding of embryonic stem-cell research.  The White
House capitulation on affirmative action.  Bipartisan support for a gargantuan education spending bill.  Republican flip-flop-flipping on global warming. Kowtowing to China. Pandering to illegal aliens.  Drip, drip, drip.

"And now, longtime conservative stalwart Sen. Jesse Helms, North Carolina Republican, has formally announced his retirement plans.  Love him or hate
him, Mr. Helms never waffled.  You knew where he stood:  against federal subsidies for vulgar art, in defense of the Boy Scouts, opposed to foreign aid and communist dictatorships, in support of dismantling government racial preferences, against all forms of gun control and for the protection of
unborn life.

"Incurably stubborn and fiercely independent, the man nicknamed 'Senator No' did what he thought was right - not just what was good for his party.  He
didn't care whose toes he stepped on, and he earned enmity and respect on
both sides of the aisle for it.  The same cannot be said for the leading Republican candidate to fill Mr. Helms' shoes.  Local and national party officials say Elizabeth Dole is the front-runner for the 2002 Republican nomination."

Hate Crime Insanity

"Prosecutorial abuse has reached new heights in Idaho.  A white husband is
being prosecuted for committing a hate crime for coming to the aid of his
wife who was assaulted by a black man.  The black man committed a physical
assault on the woman.  Her husband committed only a verbal assault on his
wife's black attacker, but, alas, the enraged husband used a racial epithet.
This was enough for county prosecutor Myron Gabbert to overlook the physical
assault, instead charging the white husband with a felony that carries a
five-year jail term.  No, this is not a joke.  You can get the details
online at www.vdare.com."

Five Dead Kids Makes Us All Depressed

"Is Andrea Pia Yates, the Houston woman who drowned her five children in a
bathtub, insane or evil?  Should mental depression be a get-out-of-jail-free
card for killers? . Granted, Mrs. Yates was depressed.  Who isn't.  Just thinking about the outpouring of sympathy for the woman depresses me.  If depression is an excuse for murder, prepare for a bloodbath.  The relevant question is this:  However her twisted mind was working that fateful day, did Mrs. Yates know she was ending the lives of five innocent children?"

Misspending the Tobacco Honey Pot

"Two years ago the states attempted to justify their lawsuit by promising that this money would be used to reimburse taxpayers for societal costs related to tobacco use and to discourage future tobacco use. Instead, tobacco companies have been exploited as an easy source of revenue by big-spending politicians eager to fund their pet projects. Funding new college scholarships and grants, flood control projects, teen pregnancy programs, and remodeling schools may be worthwhile state programs but they are all contrary to the advertised intent of the tobacco settlement. Unfortunately, the taxpayers will be left with programs that must be funded long after the tobacco settlement money has been spent."

Yeah, But At Least They Still Carry Jacoby's Column

"I've been reading the Boston Globe here a little.  It was bad enough a few years ago, but now it's pure propaganda.  It's like reading the news as written by (Democrat National Committee Chairman) Terry McAuliffe. . I don't think rednecks in rural Alabama are more closed-minded than some of these folks.  And they certainly don't want their ideas examined or engaged.  Why bother when you're basking in the warm moral approval of all your peers?"

Big Brother With a Polaroid

"The District (of Columbia) issued more than 15,000 traffic citations in the first 10 days of a program that catches speeders using photo-radar cameras, Executive Assistant Police Chief Terrance W. Gainer said. . The 15,000 speeding tickets in 10 days put the city on a pace to issue about 45,000 citations a month...much more than the 10,000 tickets police issued during all of last year."

- Washington Times, 8/24/01

Protect Free Speech in America's Churches

Left-wing ministers - particularly the "twin reverends" Jesse Jackson and Al
Sharpton -  are well-known for their fiery oratory from the public pulpit excoriating the mean and heartless Republicans.  And the IRS turns a blind eye.  But should a conservative member of the clergy preach opposition to abortion, for example, he or she risks a painful and expensive audit which could very well result in loss of its tax-exempt status.  The Houses of Worship Political Speech Protection Act would protect the right of free speech in America's churches.  Please go to:
http://www.libertypetitions.com and sign a petition to your congressman
urging support for this important First Amendment protection legislation.
