Dear Fellow School Reformers:
Could that be the sweet smell of success?
What I'm referring to is the Time magazine cover story on homeschooling
(see News Reports below). That Time, a magazine not known for questioning
state dominance of society, has seen fit to highlight the most anti-statist
of education movements is a clear sign that homeschooling has achieved a
high profile.
True, the article sniffs its way through a few questions about whether
kids
educated by their families are really good citizens. It also suggests that
educational woes could be solved if homeschoolers channeled their energy
into reforming public schools. But in doing so, Time admits the failures
of
government schools and the unquestionable achievements of the
homeschooling
movement.
Now that's success indeed.

A tale of Senate obstructionism
----------
by Michelle Malkin
President Bush's nominee for assistant secretary of Education
for the Office of Civil Rights supports school choice scholarship programs
