Dear Senator McConnell, et al.:

I am writing to you because I KNOW what a staunch defender you are of the First Amendment, having heard you say so during the debate over
"campaign finance reform." I know I don't need to remind you of the wording contained in the First Amendment but, for my purpose, I will state them here.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speak, or of the press; OR THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE PEACEABLY TO ASSEMBLE, AND TO PETITION THE GOVERNMENT FOR A REDRESS OF GRIEVANCES."

I emphasize the last line of the Amendment in order to make my point. Earlier this year (the last time being June 20), I wrote to you concerning the "income" tax issue. Specifically, I asked that you provide the specific law or internal revenue code section that makes me, or any other American CITIZEN living and working solely within the 50 states of the union, subject to pay the so-called "income" tax, or to file a 1040 form. To date I have yet to receive a reasonable and intelligent reply
from you.

On July 1st of this year, Mr. Bob Schultz, of the "We the People Foundation for Constitutional Education," was forced to resort to the desperate measure of a hunger strike, in an last ditch attempt to force his own government to "redress his grievances." A few days later, Mr. Schultz was joined in his efforts by yet another dedicated patriot and truth seeker, Roland Croteau. Both have pledged, in the true patriotic spirit of the Founders, to continue their hunger campaign until either their deaths or until such time that their grievances are addressed - and "redressed" - by their government and IRS Commissioner Charles O. Rossotti. To date neither Commissioner Rossotti nor the United States government seems interested in doing so. But I have no doubt that such a dedicated defender of the Constitution and the First Amendment as yourself will immediately see to it that this situation is rectified. That is why I write you today. Senator McConnell, all these folks are asking is that their questions be answered and their concerns addressed. This would seem to be a very reasonable request but, as I said, to date they have only been ignored and demonized, or worse! Recently, Mr Shultz personally handed a copy of his (Income Tax) Remonstrance to Jason Furman, the Executive Director of the National Economic Council. He [Mr. Furman] promised to have the National Economic Council, and White House lawyers and historians, review the evidence presented by Mr. Shultz and other tax law researchers. In response to that petition, he said government experts would participate in a June 29, 2000 conference, to answer and respond
to the Remonstrance. However, on June 2, 2000, in a telephone conversation with Mr. Furman, Mr. Shultz was told: "The legality of the income tax is not a high priority item at the White House and we will not be participating in any conference on the subject." WHAT!!! The question of whether or not our "income" tax system is, or is not, legal and legitimate is not a high priority at the White House?!! Absolutely amazing!! I personally find this statement, and the attitude behind it, not only ludicrous, but completely and utterly outrageous and arrogant as well.  However,  it would seem as though Congress shares this sentiment and, that, the matter is not a "high priority" to the Congress
either. Senator McConnell, this situation MUST BE ADDRESSED and RESOLVED!! As an American citizen I DEMAND that you, in your capacity as
an United States senator, do so IMMEDIATELY!! This fraud, this deceit - perpetrated upon the American People for nearly a century now by their
own government and their own elected so-called "representatives," cannot be allowed to continue; that is,  IF we are to be a free nation, governed
by law, not men. I charge you, in your capacity as a duly elected (and handsomely paid) "representative" of the American People and the
Commonwealth of Kentucky, to immediately see to it that this matter be addressed and that our grievances be redressed by our government.
I await your prompt reply.

Sincerely,

Claude A. Bohn

"The notion that a radical is one who hates his country is naive and usually idiotic. He is, more likely, one who likes his country more than the rest of us, and is thus more disturbed than the rest of us when he sees it debauched. He is not a bad citizen turning to crime; he is a good citizen driven to despair." - H.L. Mencken
