NTU
Presents Taxpayer Friend Awards--
(Washington, DC) -- Many incumbent Members of Congress bragged about
cutting taxes on the campaign trail last year, but far fewer consistently
backed up
their words with votes. Today a Capitol Hill ceremony sponsored by the
335,000-member National Taxpayers Union (NTU) presented "Taxpayers'
Friend Awards" to an elite group of 41 lawmakers who earned top
scores on the group's 28th annual Rating of Congress, which is based on
every fiscal roll call vote held in the House and Senate in 2000.
Lawmakers who received the Taxpayers' Friend Award for the year 2000 had
to achieve a score of at least 71 percent in the House or 79 percent in
the Senate. The highest scorers in the House and Senate, respectively,
were Ron Paul (R-TX) with 91 percent and Phil Gramm (R-TX) with 88
percent. http://www.ntu.org/rates_congress/ratesi

--NTU & World Taxpayer Groups Issue Declarations--
At Taxpayers Conference '01 in St. Louis, NTU and the taxpayer groups in
attendance issued two important declarations. First, the St. Louis
Declaration calls on governments from across the globe to end their
attempts
to establish worldwide tax cartels. Second, the members of the World
Taxpayers Associations unanimously endorsed a resolution to replace income
taxes with consumption taxes.
