Charter Chatter: Charter School trade association in California is suing
the Department of Education over unlawful regulations. "Despite the
successful track record of charter schools, the state bureaucracy is
strangling this effective and promising alternative to traditional public
schools with burdensome red
tape..." [Yes, of course, and they will continue to strangle every
"reform" effort. So, class, what's the answer to this dilemma?
Altogether, "Separate school and state."--Ed.]

Yet another school official taking the wrong lesson from Columbine
destroyed the student newspaper rather than let the staff speak out about
school violence. The undeterred newspaper staff posted the censored issue
on the internet. (Copy and paste long urls into your browser.)

Cracks in the Edifice: "It's a story that's increasingly common.
Across America, applications to private schools are up--in some cases, by
eyecatching percentages."

EduAbsurdity: Marissa, Illinois kindergartners can sleep a bit easier
tonight. Their brave school officials, when faced with the terror of a
five-year-old sitting on his mother's lap, leaped into action and did what
any hero would do--called the cops. Yes, little Johnny is once again safe
from maternal public
displays of affection. Now that the image of caring parents has been
excised from Hollywood, the next target is Main Street.

FINAL THOUGHT
"Christian people often justify putting their children in public
schools based on the fact that they are being salt and light in the
culture. However, we feel that is work for
the adults. Christian families shouldn't be sending little children as
surrogate evangelists, particularly the K-6 and
K-8 level, before they are able to handle the pressures and the hostile
environment that a pagan public school system
now represents. We feel it is a mistaken approach to education so we're
trying to correct that as really a practical and
theological error that many evangelical Christians hold."

E. Ray Moore
