Do US schools have a zero tolerance policy for drugs? Not according to Vin
Suprynowicz. He tells us how the control
types in the education establishment make Ritalin king. And don't miss
what's next in the pharmaceutical cornucopia. It's
Luvox for anxiety relief. Yes, this "safe" little pill with $2
billion in US sales in 2000 will help overcome that most dreaded childhood
disorder--shyness.

The Cato Institute has posted an online discussion about national
standards and testing at their website in both audio and video.
Participants: Alfie Kohn, author, "The Case Against Standardized
Testing: Raising the Scores, Ruining the
Schools;" Eugene W. Hickok Former Pennsylvania Secretary of
Education; and Sheldon Richman Editor, Ideas on Liberty
and author of "Parent Power: Why National Standards Won't Improve
Public Education." Bush's proposal for education would require states
to set standards in reading, math, science, and
history, and to test all public school children in grades 3 to 8. Is this
a proper role for the federal government? Will more tests encourage
student achievement and make schools accountable for student progress? Or
will more standardized testing result in
superficial thinking and a narrowing of curriculum?

HELP UPGRADE Sepschool.org
Each day, we get from 4 to 6 new signers of the Proclamation via the
Internet. On peak days when we are mentioned in a popular on-line
newsletter, we have gotten as many at 100 new signers. I am
convinced with effort, we can make 100 per day the standard. That's 3,000
new signers per month.
Here's our two-step plan:
1) Upgrade the website so it looks better, is better organized, and sells
merchandise on-line.
2) Start pushing to get more traffic.
Steve Brock is already hard at work redesigning www.sepschool.org.
Take a peek.

But he can't continue without funding. Can you please donate some part of
the $25,000 webpage budget we have for this year? Any amount is greatly
appreciated.
Please email your contribution amounts to
mailto:Morgen@psnw.com If you pay by
credit card, have her call you back for the number so all is secure.

...but we can't continue this invaluable
outreach strategy without your financial support.

FINAL THOUGHT
"I usually begin my talks about education by asking the audience if
they trust politicians. They all answer, 'No.' Then I ask if they believe
that government officials are better at making decisions
for their children then they are themselves. Again, they always answer,
'No.' If this is true, then why do people entrust their children to
politicians
and government officials?" --Ken Schoolland, author of Shogun's
Ghost: The Dark Side of Japanese Education.
