Former Kentucky Governor Louis Nunn Addresses
Kentucky Libertarian Convention Concerning Industrial Hemp
by Donna
Mancini
The
convention was outstanding!! It was probably our best ever.
Our former Governor, Louis Nunn, was the keynote Speaker, and I
have NEVER heard a better speaker in my life. The crowd went wild. They
loved him!!! He is a country lawyer, and he had the charm and humor plus
the facts straight on Industrial Hemp. Governor Nunn said industrial hemp
was a big crop for Kentucky many years ago, and, during World War II, the
government even tried to get more people to grow it.
He believes that, if it becomes legal again, it will give Kentucky
farmers a viable alternative crop, and it will probably be the basis for
creating new industry in the state to process the hemp and make products
out of its fiber and oil. Governor
Nunn strongly opposes the legalization of marijuana, which, he says, is
easily distinguishable from industrial hemp, even from an airplane flying
high overhead.
Governor
Nunn set the tone for an outstanding lineup, and it was smooth sailing on
through the day. Senator Seum, Sara Chambers, Norm Davis and Joell Palmer
all were sincerely great! We
had plenty of breaks, and the people mingled and had a good time. We had
attendees from the Reform, Green and Constitution Parties, and the Third
Party Coalition. For the first time ever we had a large group of students
from the University of Kentucky! We
had Libertarians from Ohio and Indiana , too.
Sara
Chambers, and our Past State Chair, Tom Wimmer, raised money
for the Party. We had our Business meeting, and the new officers were
elected. Those were Donna Mancini, Chair, Greg Holmes Vice Chair, Jim
Haynes Treasurer, Joe Novak , Secretary.
Tom Wimmer was elected as 1st District Representative. Rebecca
Novak wes elected to At Large Representative.
Nick Karem was elected to Third District Representative.
Robert Monton was elected District 6 representative.
We look
forward to another successful year of promoting individual liberty!
