The Easter Story – An Example of Pure Democracy in Action

by Pat Pending

The purpose of the U.S. Constitution is to severely limit the power of the government.  Many people find these limits to be too confining and want to eliminate them or to interpret them out of the Constitution, thereby moving us closer to a pure democracy, where the will of the people rules.  Perhaps we should take this Easter week to reflect on the meaning of a pure, unlimited democracy.

In the Easter story, we saw pure democracy in action.  The people were asked what should be done with Jesus, and they replied “Crucify Him!”  The people got exactly what they wanted – one man one vote!  How very progressive!
