Health Tips

by Donna Mancini

As a dietitian, I encourage most all of my patients to get a treadmill or do some sort of serious exercise. I think exercise is more important than diet, as when you exercise, you develop an inner peace and confidence, and you begin to think about food differently , and place it in the proper perspective.......... Eat or Die..... Not Live to eat, which is so common in today’s world. Also, we have too many people who are Overweight (more than 50%) so many people take on the "I fit in" attitude instead of trying to be different and be the best they can be!!!

Have you ever heard of Dr. William Glasser ? He is a psychiatrist and author of Control Theory and Positive addiction, and Reality Therapy.

During my 30’s, when I was down and out, and hated my life, I read every self help, psychology book in Hawley Cooke... bought tapes, etc..... Then I discovered Glasser!!!  Control Theory and Positive addiction helped me understand myself, and get on the right track to solving my issues and cut the crap. That is also when I went back to school and did my Masters, and about the time I took up Serious Exercise.

Positive Addiction talks a lot about Running and what others call the runner’s high, etc. Control Theory is my favorite, but cannot be bought in bookstores now as it is out of print. It is probably in libraries. I have given away all my copies, and now cannot get it anymore. His new book, Choice Theory is similar, and OK, but I still like Control Theory. ( I never did like
sequels....)

This leads me to two of my New Year’s resolutions .......... never loan books that you expect to see again, and never overestimate the popularity of what YOU like, and think it will always be available .....(Buy extra books and tapes, or make copies)

Run, Run, Run on your treadmill to your favorite music with a good beat, (I prefer Disco) and ALL the ideas you need will pop into your head!!!!
