II. 2001 General Assembly Schedule and Major Pre-Filed Bills
The 2001 General Assembly will convene at noon Tuesday to allow for
leadership elections, filing of bills and committee assignments. The
first part of the session will adjourn Friday. Interim legislative
committees may meet from then until Feb. 5th to consider bills.
The full legislature will reconvene February 6th to conduct regular
business. It will adjourn again on March 9th and take a 10-day break to
allow for any vetoes by the governor.
Legislators are scheduled to meet again on March 22 and 23 to
consider any vetoes. The session must be completed by March
30. Several bills have been pre-filed for the 2001 session. They
include:
A bill sponsored by Rep. Jodie Haydon, D-Bardstown, that would require
school boards to adopt a policy requiring public school students to
address public school employees in respectful terms such as ``Yes,
Ma'am'' or ``No, Ma'am.''
Proposals by Rep. Greg Stumbo, D-Prestonsburg, and Sen. Bob Jackson,
D-Murray, to phase out the state property tax on motor vehicles.
A bill by Rep. Bob Damron, D-Nicholasville, to create a
"sales tax holiday'' that would exempt from state sales taxes
back-to-school items such as books, backpacks and clothes in
the first week of August.
A bill by Sen. Bob Leeper, R-Paducah, to encourage the cleanup and
re-use of so-called ``brownfields,'' sites suspected of being
contaminated environmentally.
A bill by Sen. Jack Westwood, R-Erlanger, to include the abortion pill
RU- 486 within the state's definition of abortion.
A bill by Sen. Joey Pendleton, D-Hopkinsville, and

We are located in the building right next to the Courthouse. One of our
hard-working volunteers has been telling people "the
Republicans are moving closer to the Courthouse". In January we
plan to begin opening daily.
On Wednesday, December 20th, 2000, the Boyle County
Republican Party held its Holiday Celebration at the KY Depot
Restaurant in Stanford, KY. US Congressman Ernie Fletcher,
accompanied by his wife Glenna, spoke to the group numbering
110. Ernie felt it was important to personnally thank some
of the many Boyle Countians who worked so hard on his re-election
campaign this fall. Ernie also spoke on a number of issues coming before
Congress in January and his looking forward to working a Bush
administration.
