The latest protest against Trump’s election is for people to wear a safety pin or post a safety pin on their facebook page to indicate that they want Trump to protect them and all other leftists. They claim to be afraid, because they believe Trump is a sexist, racist homophobe, who wants to attack them. I find this very interesting for a couple of reasons. First, the evidence does not support characterizing Trump in these ways. He has been rude and obnoxious to lots of people, but he is not sexist, racist, or homophobic and has shown no intention to use government power to punish people on the basis of their gender, race, or sexual orientation. Second, for the most part, these are the same people who have had no problem with a wide variety of leftist-supported activities that have made other people feel very unsafe.
For example, if you have supported the Black Lives Matter riots that have put whole neighborhoods in fear and that have encouraged the murder of numerous policemen, then please remove your safety pin. You should not expect to be able to safely live in peace if you have intentionally denied that right to others.
If you supported the punishment of bakers, florists, and photographers who peacefully refused to participate in same sex weddings because it was against their religion, then please remove your safety pin. You should not expect to be able to safely live in peace if you have made people fearful to peacefully practice their religion.
If you supported pipeline protesters who have taken over private property, killed people’s cattle and threatened lives, then please remove your safety pin. You should not expect to be able to safely live in peace if you have made people afraid to carry on their legal business enterprises.
When you stop disturbing the peace of others, then you may ask that others leave you in peace.
I will not hold my breath waiting for that to happen.
