It was a beautiful thing to see Ted Cruz win in Iowa last night. Cruz was the only one of the major candidates to oppose the ethanol lobby, and yet he was able to win in a state with lots of corn farmers who depend on ethanol mandates to create demand for their product. Most other politicians have caved under the pressure from the ethanol lobby, and indeed the governor of Iowa came out against Cruz because he opposed the ethanol mandates. But Cruz stuck to his principles, explained how excessive government interference harms farmers, and explained that getting the government out of the business of picking winners and losers will help everyone in the long run. Bravo!
It is understandable that many people support Trump because they believe he is the alpha male who will kick a** and take on Washington, but those people need to take another look. If what you want is someone who is rude and obnoxious, then Trump is your man, but if you want someone who will really take on the Washington cartel and win, then you want Ted Cruz.
Trump is a deal maker who will not fight for conservative values. He has never been a conservative, and he will not suddenly become one if he is elected President. Trump has been an integral part of the insider dealing and corruption that our government has become. For example, he attempted to use the government’s power of eminent domain to throw an old woman out of her home so he could acquire her property to use for a parking lot. He brags about how he has bought politicians. He has expressed support for single payer (government-provided) health care and said that Cruz is cold-hearted and wants people to die in the street. He will fight for himself and his own power and ego, but he will not fight for you or for the rule of law and the values that have made this country great. But Ted Cruz will.
Cruz is not popular among the Washington insider set, because he speaks the truth and does what he promised when he ran for office. He does not buckle under pressure from Mitch McConnell as Marco Rubio and Rand Paul have done. No doubt, some Washington insiders hate him for pushing them to keep their campaign promises, but isn’t that a good thing? If Cruz is elected President, then Republicans in Congress will be encouraged to keep their campaign promises, to shrink government and make it accountable to the people, which is exactly what we need. If Cruz is elected President, then he will choose solid Supreme Court justices, who will respect and uphold the law as written rather than make it up as they go along. He will help restore the balance of powers and respect for the rule of law. He will do what we say we want our elected officials to do. He will have a clear, solid foreign policy that supports our friends and makes our enemies think twice before stepping out of line. He will promote economic policies that encourage growth and opportunity, and he will treat every person with respect.
Please do not be discouraged by the people who say that all politicians are crooked and the best thing we can do is burn the whole place down. That is not true. That sentiment is extremely harmful and destructive.
Ted Cruz is not a crooked politician. He has great respect for the founding principles that have made this country great, and he has the courage and strength to stand up for those principles. He believes that we can restore this country’s greatness by restoring the Constitutional Republic it was meant to be. He is willing to fight for those values on our behalf, and he has taken the arrows from the Washington insiders who do not want him to rock their comfortable boat. If we really want to restore America to greatness at home and in the world, then we need to support the person who really will do it. That person is Ted Cruz.
