The Movie, ’13 Hours’. A Short Review

John Knapp

If your Conservative political passions need a booster shot…….

We went to see the movie, ’13 Hours’ last night. It was done very well, a first-class cinematic effort. It’s not based on a true story, it is the true story of what happened during the attack on the CIA compound in Benghazi in 2012. It was not overdone in any way, not for political purposes, not so’s you could tell anyway.

Hillary Clinton’s name was never mentioned. There was a reference at one point to POTUS being briefed, but other than that, I don’t remember Obama’s name being mentioned either. The movie lets the viewer reach his own conclusions (which should be perfectly obvious to anyone with one eye and half sense.)

The movie juxtaposes the impossibly hellish fight our few brave men fought….with the initial inexplicable lack of support they received from their politically correct and bureaucratically-frozen  superiors (which certainly went all the way to the top, of course.)

To describe this movie in movie terms, it was John Wayne, initially constrained by red tape and political correctness, finally seizing permission to defend the Alamo. John Wayne would never shrink from danger, and neither did these Americans.

It’s amazing any of these men lived to tell their story. The civilian staff in the consulate owe those few brave men their lives.  I hope since the Benghazi incident, security people overseas now receive the respect they deserve from their civilian superiors.

Quite stealthily, the movie made all the right points…why this happened, and why this didn’t have to happen the way it did. It’s a great, well-timed movie, a political hammer to you-know-whose Presidential candidacy and her former boss.

Go see it if you can. It’s stunning, maddening, appalling, infuriating, timely, uplifting, and extremely patriotic.
