Thanks to your help, we did it.
The road to the United States Congress is a long one, but yesterday we passed a big test. The Republicans of Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District voted overwhelmingly in support of our message of liberty and limited government. This election reaffirmed the principles of the Republican Party and the principles upon which our great country was founded. I am truly moved seeing the support and dedication of so many Kentuckians for the message we are delivering.
Today, we enter a new phase of this battle. The primary was rough for all of the candidates, but the general election is going to be far tougher. This is going to be an ideological battle like few others in our country. The differences between me and my Democratic opponent could not be greater.
• My opponent will propose a government solution to every problem. I will counter with personal or free-market solutions to problems.
• My opponent will find it hard to imagine any limits on the power of the federal government.I will show the reasons this nation must have a limited government for the preservation of liberty.
• My opponent will say that deficits and debt are necessary to provide endless services to the citizens of our country. I will show them the grave dangers of this debt and its costs today and in the future.
• My opponent will apologize for America and its greatness. I will show why America is great and what conditions will allow it to continue this greatness.
I know we have all worked hard to get to this point – incredibly hard. Together, we’ve reached out to countless numbers of our family, friends and neighbors to share our message. But we must now look deep within ourselves to find the energy to fight the next phase of this campaign. Your energy and enthusiasm makes me work harder every day. I can’t thank you enough for that. I think you will see another difference between me and my opponent. I am not fighting just to be a member of Congress,I am fighting for the ideals that made our country great – for the ideals that changed human history with our nation’s founding.
We must now work to unite our party to move forward together. I know we can do it. The deep principles of the Republican Party unify us against the opposition - an opposition that has never understood America’s greatness, because it has never understood the root of America’s goodness.
With your continued help, we will march to victory in November – a victory that will ring in America’s renewed commitment to liberty and limited government.
I am grateful for all that you have done, and I will never be able to thank you enough.
