2nd Amendment alert from Sheri Quinn
Second Amendment Alert
We have several good gun bills this session that need action
HB 290: Stop Local Ordinances against your Gun Rights – Lately a lot of local
governments have been violating your gun rights by disregarding KRS 65.870. The
problem is there are not sanctions against those in your local governments that do this.
This law however would see to it that there are consequences to violating state law and
your gun rights. Primary Sponsor: Rep. Jim DeCesare. Committee: House Local
Government.
HB 280:Expand Conceal Carry Rights – This bill would do several things, such as allow a
Citizen to conceal carry without a license as long as they are in KY, if they go outside KY
they still have to abide by the other states reciprocal agreements with KY. Would prohibit
employers on placing gun restrictions on their employees in their cars and parking lots and
allow for self defense there without fear of litigation. Allows Hunters to Conceal Carry and
protect themselves at all times. Farmers will be able to protect their livestock without fear
of repercussions. This is a pretty full Gun Rights bill of which the above is just a sampling
of the main things it will do for Kentuckians. Primary Sponsor: Rep. Mike Harmon.
Committee: House Judiciary
HB 222 / SB 73: The Kentucky Firearms Freedom Act (KFFA) – This bill would allow for
firearms, ammunition, and firearms accessories made in Kentucky, marked “made in
Kentucky,” and used in Kentucky to specify that these items are exempt from federal law;
specify that the exemption does not apply to machine guns, silencers, exploding
ammunition, and firearms with a bore of 1 1/2 inches. This legislation is a tangible
application of the 10th Amendment and the Constitutional concept of Nullification that
Founding Fathers such as Thomas Jefferson and James Madison consider so crucial to the
preservation of our American Constitutional Republic. Primary House Sponsor: Rep. Stan
Lee. Primary Senate Sponsor: John Schickel. Committee: House Elections, Constituional
Amendments and Intergovernmental Affairs. Senate Veterans, Military Affairs, and Public
Protection.
