Victim
The term “victim” has been used recently to identify a person who is angry about not getting his way. (We used to call these spoiled brats.) Most people do not want to offend others and do not want to appear offensive. Unfortunately, some aggressive people take advantage of that natural human tendency to bully others into getting their way. By acting offended or playing the victim, these folks intimidate nice people into silence. They even may believe themselves to be morally superior, since, after all, they are the “victims”. This is very perverse and should not be tolerated any more than we should tolerate a brat’s temper tantrum. In the future, when people try this tactic on me, I intend to respond by saying something like this: “Do you really believe that becoming angry (or crying or taking offense) changes the facts of the situation?” …Of course, nobody ever accused me of being nice!
