Special interests
Special Interests – When a politician uses this term, he usually means “people who are not on my side.” The politician never refers to the people who support him as special interests. So, for example, President Obama never calls trial lawyers or unions “special interests”. The fact is that every single individual is a special interest. We all want something from the government, even if all we want is to be left alone (good luck with that!), and we should all have the right to speak out freely and petition the government in favor of our special interests. So, while “special interests” really means “everyone”, when a politician speaks about “special interests”, it generally means “people I wish would just sit down and shut up”.
