Reviving the Constitution

Hillsdale College is working in a host of ways to revive the principles of the American Constitution. We invite you to join these vital efforts.

The 2008 establishment of the Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship extends the educational reach of Hillsdale College to Washington, D.C. With a Capitol Hill building located just blocks from the Supreme Court set to open Constitution Day, September 17, 2010, the Kirby Center is uniquely situated to teach the principles and practices of American constitutionalism in the nation’s capital, and nationwide.

This past January more than 30,000 citizens from all fifty states registered to participate in “Reviving the Constitution,” Hillsdale College’s first-ever online town hall. Since then another 20,000 individuals have viewed the town hall, which features five presentations on the Constitution, including that of Hillsdale College President Dr. Larry P. Arnn. Focusing on the Constitution’s framework for the protection of our liberties, the speakers also explain the Progressive movement’s assault on constitutional principles.

As one town hall participant and citizen from Colorado wrote, “You have provided a phenomenal resource for those of us who want to stand up for liberty in our own neighborhoods.”

That resource is now available on DVD!

Perfect for viewing at home, in classrooms, or with church groups and civic associations, the two-disc DVD set is available for online purchase. If you prefer to order by phone, call 866-824-6831. Orders may also be placed by regular mail. Please allow 2-3 weeks for shipment.

The online version of “Reviving the Constitution” is free. A compact “Town Hall Reader” is also available without charge, as is “The Hillsdale College U.S. Constitution Reader”, a collection of 100 essential documents used in the College’s core course on the Constitution.

On April 16-17, 2010, the Hoogland Center for Teacher Excellence is sponsoring a seminar for teachers on the topic, “A Living Constitution? Progressives and the American Constitution.” Online registration is available for this program, which will be held on Hillsdale’s Michigan campus.

A Hillsdale Hostel program featuring Hillsdale faculty lecturing on “The American Constitution” is scheduled for June 13-19, 2010. Space is limited; early registration is encouraged.

Please spread the word of these opportunities to your friends, neighbors and colleagues. If you have any questions, please email constitution@hillsdale.edu.  Thank you for your interest in reviving the Constitution.

Hillsdale College was founded in 1844 and has built a national reputation through its maintenance of a classical core curriculum and its principled refusal to accept any federal or state taxpayer subsidies. It also conducts a large outreach effort that promotes civil and religious liberty, including a monthly speech digest, Imprimis, with a current circulation of 1.8 million.
