To the do-gooders who are trying to restrict payday lending in KY:
Why don’t you put your money where your mouth is and create an organization that helps people who need a short-term loan? If you think the payday lenders are predatory, then you should set up an operation that competes with those predatory lenders and gives a better deal to the folks who are down on their luck. Otherwise, all you are doing is further restricting the options available to people in need, making their lives even more difficult. It might make you feel good, but, as with many well-intentioned programs, it actually would harm the people you claim to be helping. If you are really interested in helping other people rather than just in stroking your own egos, you ought to rethink your approach.
